La Vie en Rose Branching out . . .

The last few weeks have been busy at the shop as I’ve had the builders in!  Yes, La Vie en Rose is expanding again!!  I’m opening a garden centre at the back of the shop.  Well, it will be more of a mini garden centre really.  At the back of the shop there is a yard with a small, very old stone outbuilding which we have been working on over the last few weeks.  Our new mini garden centre will be small but hopefully cute!!  I cannot WAIT to open as it’s been a part of my dream for so many years and now it’s actually happening!!!  I can’t really believe it.  Every day we get a little bit closer but as these things go, it’s taken more time and more money than I originally thought so hopefully all things going well we should be open in a couple of weeks!!!   The garden centre will be like the shop, vintage and French in style with furniture, pots, plants and decorative items for your garden.  Small but cute!!

To get from the current main shop to the new garden room, you have to pass through this hall . . .

We just finished painting this hall last weekend, the electrician came and put up my lights and we have now opened this hallway.  This was a big enough project on its own!  There was a block wall which the builder knocked out to make the hallway more open and put in its place this painted timber “balcony” as the floor was uneven so we needed to put something here to stop people falling off the step!  Then of course the walls were all uneven so we put up timber tongue and groove pannelling on the walls and ceiling.  This tongue and groove pannelling is becoming my signature wall covering!! It is just so handy for covering old walls, I’ve used it everywhere in the shop- and I think it adds great character and warmth.

For now this hall is home to our fabric collection, so all our fabric books and oilcloths.  We also put in some shelves to display some lamps.  It’s not a huge space but it has given us some much needed wall space as the front main shop was getting a little crowded!  The builder put up the heavy mirrors etc yesterday but he wasn’t here today so myself and Elske managed to locate a hammer and some screws and set to work ourselves putting up a few lightweight signs and things.  Yes, I did say hammer and screws!  I actually tried to hammer in screws today.  It doesn’t work.  So then we hunted down some small nails and they did the trick!!  Myself and Elske laughed a lot today as we were very, very proud of our DIY efforts.

It’s so nice to have all the fabric books in the one place!  (Note the “beach stuff” sign that myself and Elske put up!!!!)

We also managed to squeeze some shelving in for lamps . . .

The Cabbages & Roses Fabric samples all hanging neatly . . .

I also wanted a console in this space so customers could browse through the books. In the end I went for this green distressed piece . . .

Yes, the Garden sign on the door is crooked!   We put it up for the photo and couldn’t stop laughing!  : )

So our new hallway is finished and open and our new Garden Outdoor room is nearing completion – yay!!   will keep you posted on the Opening Day – can’t wait!   Starting to plan the opening day now, there will definitely be bubbley and hopefully lots of glorious sunshine!!!
